Energy Savings Scheme (ESS) Program Overview

The NSW Energy Savings Scheme (ESS) provides financial incentives to install energy efficient equipment and appliances in NSW households and businesses. Find out more about the NSW Energy Saving Scheme here.

  • A large number of New South Wales families are already saving hundreds on every bill thanks to a new hot water heater. Don’t miss out!
  • If your electric water heater is on your property, you’re eligible to receive a complimentary hot-water system. It’s as simple as that.
  • You too can take advantage of the NSW Government incentive and upgrade to an energy-efficient system that has the benefit of 80% less operating costs.
  • Hot water heaters are available in various sizes to suit all families. specifically designed to work in Australian conditions, and are installed by skilled tradespeople at a cost of just $33.

The ESS works by allowing ACPs to create and register ESCs for energy savings that are supported with appropriate evidence. ESCs are then purchased each year by mainly electricity retailers operating in NSW to meet their share of a legislated annual energy savings target. This creates a market for certificates (ie, demand).

Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) Overview:

The proposed changes address what is the Australian Response of the Government in response to the Integrity Review of the Rooftop PV Sector. The majority of them are changes to the scheme for small-scale renewable energy that is managed through the Clean Energy Regulator (CER).

This is akin to allowing this CER to:

  • approve installer accreditation schemes
  • They have more control over the solar components that are approved by the government.
  • Enhance compliance monitoring and enforcement.

The changes will also simplify the reporting requirements of solar installers, solar retailers, and manufacturers.

We are also seeking your opinions on any other technical changes proposed to improve the efficiency of the administration of the Renewable Energy Target (RET) scheme.
